Toll Collection Methods

At each motorway entrance station, users without an electronic toll collection device must collect a ticket issued by the toll booths, certifying the entrance station, which must be used to pay the toll when exiting the motorway.
In the event of a ticket not being issued, the user must ask for assistance to an operator by pressing the red button located above the toll booth, as it is strictly forbidden to exit the vehicle. If you turn up at the exit station without a ticket, you are required to pay the toll calculated from the farthest entrance station.
To facilitate the transit of vehicles, all stations have gates dedicated to electronic toll collection, a system that allows for payment by direct debit from one's current account, without stopping at the toll station.
The toll can be paid in cash (also in foreign currency, only on lanes with an operator) or by deferred debit: Electronic toll collection, Viacard, credit cards (VISA, VISA ELECTRON, EUROCARD/MASTERCARD, AURA, AMERICAN EXPRESS) or debit cards (Bancomat, Postamat, Fast-Pay). The service does not require a PIN to be entered.

To avoid possible problems when using electronic toll collection devices and to avoid problems leading to the issuance of toll non-payment reports, users must keep the number plates associated with their device up to date.
When exiting, after paying on the manual or automatic lanes, users can request a receipt: the document is not valid for tax purposes. To obtain an invoice for tolls paid in cash or with credit and debit cards, users must request it by using the relevant forms (available at the Service Centre or on the Company's website www.cavspa.it Services - Toll - Toll Invoicing section) to which the originals of the receipts must be attached. For customers with electronic toll collection contracts or Viacard in their current account, the toll invoice is delivered directly to their home. In the event of difficulties, a 24-hour support service is available, guaranteed by a network of remote operators who can communicate with the customer and assist them in solving the problem.

If the toll is not paid, administrative sanctions will ensue under Art. 176, paragraphs 11 and 21, of the Traffic Code, which for the ascertained violation of the obligation to pay the motorway toll provides for a fine from Euro 87.00 to Euro 344.00 and 2 points being subtracted from the driving licence of the actual offender.
When the toll is not paid, either in full or in part, a non-payment receipt is issued. Each receipt (Toll Non-Payment Report) shows the vehicle data (class and plate number), the transit data (date, time, exit toll station) and, where available, also the entrance toll station and the amount to be paid.

If you do not have the entry ticket, you can self-certify the entrance toll station during the online payment process.

Non-payment of tolls can be paid free of charge within 15 days from the date of issue. After this period has elapsed, the amount will be increased by the amount of the assessment costs (Art. 176/11 bis of Traffic Code)
